Emergency Notifications

Trapper Alerts

In an emergency or crisis situation, ΑρΑ«Φ±²₯ immediately notifies students and employees.

  • Alerts are sent as texts, emails and voice messages to every individual enrolled in the Emergency Notification System.*
  • The campus public address system broadcasts situation statements and directions.

Additional measures will be taken if the situation warrants.

  • An emergency message or notification will appear on your MyNWC portal.
  • The NWC home page (nwc.edu) may be replaced with an emergency statement about the situation and a continuous feed of updates.

Timely Warnings

Trapper Alerts may also be used to warn students about events/situations on or off campus that can pose an ongoing or continuing threat to individuals or property. Timely warnings will be issued when information is received by the college about pertinent infractions in the community involving —

  • Arson
  • Burglary
  • Robbery
  • Aggravated assault
  • Criminal homicide
  • Sex offenses
  • Any other emergency as deemed necessary

*When you enroll in classes, you are automatically enrolled in the NWC Emergency Notification System. However, you should check your MyNWC periodically to make sure your phone number is up-to-date.

911 Phones

Emergency phones with blue strobe lights are located on several high-traffic walkways on campus. As soon as you push the button, your call is put through to 911.

  • East of Simpson Hall
  • Corner of 7th and Division Streets
  • Yellowstone Building courtyard
  • South of the Cabre Building
  • On the campus mall

Emergency Response Guide

Learn what to do in an emergency or crisis situation by downloading the Emergency Response Guide below, or find it under the Campus Security tab on your MyNWC portal.

Note: the Evacuation Guide can be found on pages 11-12. Be sure to familiarize yourself with your building's evacuation location ASAP, so you know where to go should you hear the alarm bells go off.

Fire Drills

Expect to be involved in fire drills at ΑρΑ«Φ±²₯. They’ll come when it’s snowing, in the middle of the night, whenever you least expect, but sometimes they’ll also get you out of class and into the sunshine on nice, warm days.

  • Become familiar with evacuation procedures for your hall and for every building you have classes in.
  • During drills, once you’ve exited the building, look for your building captain wearing an orange vest and proceed immediately to the evacuation assembly area so you can be accounted for and assist with status assessment of others.
  • If you have questions, visit with your instructors or hall director. Or contact Campus Security.
