An opening reception and awards presentation for the Second Annual ΑρΑ«Φ±²₯ Photo Contest is scheduled for Tuesday, February 6, from 7-8:30 p.m. in the SinClair Gallery inside NWC’s Orendorff Building. This will be the public’s first chance to see this year’s entries, and meet many of the photographers and award winners.
Participants were allowed to submit up to five images to be considered for inclusion by the selection committee. There were separate divisions for amateur and professional photographers, with cash prizes awarded in each division.
Serving as this year’s contest juror is award-winning photojournalist Mark Davis from the Powell Tribune. Originally from Nebraska, Davis has been a photojournalist for 40 years, including the last seven with the Tribune. He has also worked abroad on assignment for Stars and Stripes, the U.S. military’s daily newspaper, in Japan and covering issues related to war in Guatemala and the Balkans.
In 2021, Davis was named Journalist of the Year by the Wyoming Press Association, which included both reporting and photography. He was recently announced as the winner in the WPA’s wildlife photography category as well as first place for outdoors/environmental reporting and column writing.
The NWC Photo Contest Exhibit will be open in SinClair Gallery from 7 p.m. on February 6 through March 22.
