Dubbed the “heaviest” exhibit to ever go on display at ÁñÁ«Ö±²¥, “Celebrating Print” will feature a wide range of printing presses, including one weighing more than 2,200 pounds, and other tools used to mass produce printed materials and one-of-a-kind artwork. The opening reception takes place Thursday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. in the Cabre Building’s Northwest Gallery.
The exhibit will showcase both commercial and fine art processes and prints including relief, letter press, intaglio, lithography, serigraphs (screen prints) and more.
“Nowadays, when people hear the word ‘print,’ they think about photographs, more specifically digital photographs,” explained NWC Art and Galleries Coordinator Denise Kelsay. “The exhibit will be both educational and expansive, and we hope to use this as an opportunity to expose the community to traditional printmaking.”
As guests move through the gallery, there will be informational panels explaining processes, tools and equipment. In addition, on opening night, local printmakers who contributed to the exhibit will be present to talk about the processes and answer questions.
“Celebrating Print” will be on display in the Northwest Gallery through Friday, Nov. 16. This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
