Budding scientists throughout the Big Horn Basin will demonstrate their knowledge and compete in the Northern Junior Regional Science Fair at ΑρΑ«Φ±²₯ Thursday, Jan. 17.
Beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the Yellowstone Building, middle school students, grades sixth through eighth, will present a variety of projects for the judges to evaluate. Those who earn first, second and third place awards will qualify for the Wyoming State Science Fair in Laramie, Wyoming, March 3-5.
Categories for student projects include animal and plant sciences; behavioral and social sciences; biomedical and health sciences, biomedical engineering and translational medical sciences; chemistry and chemical energy; biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology, as well as computational biology and bioinformatics; earth and environmental sciences and environmental engineering; engineering mechanics, materials science and physical energy; mathematics; microbiology; physics and astronomy; robotics and intelligent machines and embedded systems and systems software.
Judging takes place from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in Yellowstone Building Conference Center. During this time, visitors are welcome to view the projects and talk with middle school presenters.
The ΑρΑ«Φ±²₯ Biology and Chemistry Departments will offer demonstrations and hands-on activities for students from 12:30-1:15 p.m.
The event concludes with an awards ceremony from 1:30-2 p.m.
